Contest - Mythical Senshi

My entry for the Mythological Sailor Senshi contest being held by . For each goddess I googled images/depictions of them and looked up pictures of them in the mythology books I have.

The Egyptian goddess I chose was Isis. The wings were too cool to pass up, as was the horned sun headdress (the horns due to her association with the cow-headed goddess Sekhmet). I loved drawing the kohl eye make up she's wearing, even if it turned out well on only her right eye.

I chose Hera, queen of the Greek gods for Greek mythology. I picked green and magenta as her colors due to Juno, her Roman counterpart, being married to Jupiter (the Roman counterpart of Zeus). I am so relieved that her olive skin tone actually looks olive, unlike the real picture.

The Asian goddess I chose was Amaterasu. Her fuku is just a modified kimono. I integrated the three treasures she gave to the first emperor of Japan into her costume (the sword, the mirror that was used to lure her out of a cave after she was sulking due to her brother Susanowoo's bullying...and the jewel...which were the inspirations for the three Talismans in Sailor Moon S).

I picked Arduinna/Ardwinna for the Celtic goddess. I discovered a wonderful image of her riding a gigantic wild boar in a dress, and thought it would make a wonderful fuku style. She's a nature goddess, and goddess of the woods so I gave her a bow and arrows (which was also part of the picture I found of her). She also has a leafy choker.

Finally, my bonus round goddess Senshi is Freya from Norse mythology. I gave her a cape, long sleeves, warm gloves and furry winter boots in accordance to her region of origin. In place of a choker she's wearing her magical necklace Brisingamen that she received from dwarves (Thor had to borrow it while pretending to be her so he could get his hammer Mjolnir back from a frost giant that wanted to marry her). She also has a tiara that isn't v-shaped like the typical tiara.
